North Korean Leadership
It has become apparent over the years that Korean leader Kim Jong Il, going through various bouts of ill health, is not planning on taking the traditional route of passing leadership onto his eldest son. Instead, he is passing leadership onto his youngest son, whom some would say is actually crazier than the father. He has now gone so far as to name his youngest son as his “heir apparent.” The world has certainly seen is share of wars between brothers and even sisters when it comes to leadership.
But while Kim Jong Nam is the oldest, there is reason why he has fallen out of favor. While he currently lives in China or Macau according to some sources, he seems to have fallen out of favor in 2001 when he was caught trying to sneak into Japan on a forged passport. He has of course had certain issues with his younger brother usurping his place. However, he has stated that he wishes his brother all of the best success. It’s unusual at best, and some have their doubts about whether or not he will try to overthrow that standing.
Not much is known about the youngest Kim Jong Un. There are certainly speculations about just how it works, and it is said that he was actually educated in Switzerland. It is well known that Kim Jong Il has even traveled to countries such as Cambodia. But nobody knows how much truth there is to the idea of North Korean leadership being educated in countries such as Switzerland.
At this time, considering past circumstances, of course things could still change at any moment. Oldest son Kim Jong Nam could still fall back into favor with his father. And while Kim Jong Un has been designated as a high ranking general and more, of course that could also be changed. But at this point in time, the youngest son of Kim Jong Il has been designated as the named successor for the North Korean leadership.
